Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) works by injecting a concentration of your own platelets into the damaged or aging area. The plasma is full of growth factors and stimulates restoration. For this procedure, we conduct a blood draw similar to a routine blood test and place it in a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins down a solution of platelets, rich in growth factors and inflammatory mediators essential for healing tissue.

  • Yes! PRP involves the use of your own blood cells therefore there is no known risk of allergic or rejection reaction.

  • This depends on what is being addressed and how long the problem has existed.Typically, patients require 2-3 treatments 6-8 weeks apart.

  • Chronic tendon or ligament injuries

    Osteoarthritis

    Joint injuries or degeneration

    Wrinkles and scars

    Urinary incontinence

    Vaginal dryness

  • A patient may experience temporary pain or discomfort or bruising near the injection site. These symptoms should resolve within 3-4 days

  • It is recommended to be well hydrated the day before and day of any injection. Abstain from any alcohol or caffeine the night before and the morning of the injection.

  • You may apply heat, but avoid ice for 3 days. This is because the injections are inflammatory at first, to stimulate healing. For any discomfort or bruising, you may take Tylenol or homeopathic Arnica, but it is recommended to avoid NSADs like aspirin.
